Hi Grey & Toasters, What you should be aware of here is that IBM branded SnapDrive or SnapManager must be upgraded with the same brand of software. For example, if you want to install IBM branded SME, you must first uninstall NetApp branded SME from the system. Furthermore, different brands of the same software cannot coexist on the same Windows host. For example, NetApp SME can not coexist with IBM SME. The same applies to SnapDrive. That said, NetApp branded SME will work with IBM branded SnapDrive and vice versa. NetApp branded SnapDrive will work with IBM branded ONTAP and vice versa. > Is it just me or should netapp include hot fixes that it requires to install for windows.... No, it is not just you. We think so too and actually do make some of the required hotfixes available. Keep in mind that permission to redistribute these hotfixes is at Microsoft's discretion and obtaining the permission is not necessarily an easy task. All of the hotfixes that we do have the permission to redistribute can be downloaded from the SnapDrive download page on the NOW site. To the best of my knowledge, the hotfixes that we have permission to redistribute are also included on the SnapDrive CD. You could run OCFS using NetApps as a block storage device (iSCSI or Fibre Channel), not NFS. However, I recommend against doing this. If you have a NetApps already, you are much better off just running Oracle over NFS, which is certified and supported by Oracle on NetApps through the Oracle Storage Certification Program. There are actually two versions of OCFS, ocfs and ocfs2, and they are both weak. The first one was good *only* for oracle data files - you could not do regular file system operations in it reliably. The second one, an open source rewrite now maintained by SuSE Linux, is *only* good for standard files - it is not validated or approved by Oracle for use storing Oracle data files. You can use it for shared oracle home (where the Oracle binaries live, etc), but you can use NFS for that too. If you are looking for a Linux cluster file system, there are multiple other better options out there than OCFS. A detailed discussion of Linux CFS options is out of scope for this thread - drop me a line if you want the rundown - but for the NetApps customer, Oracle over NFS is a better approach all around. It's more reliable, you can use it for both files and databases, it's certified, and it is in production in lots of places. Grey, You should be fine. Depending on how your 980 is configured, your performance may change. Snap Drive

Is it just me or should netapp include hot fixes that it requires to install for windows.... I just grabbed 4.1 and have to call MS to to get the new hot fix patches... I suppose I could log into our premiere site and download them as well as call, but what If I didn't have a premiere agreement. Second to that they are requiring me to clearly install patches that have not been regression tested as of yet with MS........ opps. So every time someone calls to get these patches MS tells them not to install them on production boxes awesome....

I have already raised with with microsoft that these patches are prereqs for snapdrive4.1 and they should be made available to the general public. Change of IP adress - impact on snapmirror

Hi everybody, i have a fas3050 snapmirroring it's data onto a r200. We have a seperate storagenet for snapmirror and therefore do not use the hostnames but the IP addresses in the snapmirror.conf. We will have a change of IP addresses for this net in the near future and i am wondering if i can keep the snapmirrored data after changing the IP addresses? If not i want to set up entries in the /ETC/hosts with different hostnames for the storage-IP so that i will not have this problem again. Would this be a good solution?
