To clarify this further: I _believe_ you can make use of VSM, then implement QSM\SV, but you would end up losing the existing snapvault relationships. I'm not so sure the LREP is much of an improvement on this. I hope I'm wrong. The only way I know of doing a baseline snapshot with QSM\SnapVault would be utilizing LREP. There are no snapshots at all in common?? I have lost one of my baseline snapshots on the primary filer and am unable to resync that snapvault since there is no baseline snapshot to reference from. Oracle Replication & Snapshot-space Queries

Hi, Couple of quick queries - 1. In terms of Oracle data replication - is it worth using low level data replication to another SAN (eg using NetApps tools) or do it via Oracle itself ? Which is 'safer' / 'faster' ? Whats the bandwidth requirement comparison for SAN replication vs database replication ? 2. What sort of space utilisation do people 'allocate' for their snapshot cycle ? Vendors quote storage space and snapshot functionality but seem to gloss over the fact that snapshots eat into the SAN's available space. Thanks in advance, Raj.

DR suggestions for CIFS

Guys, I'd require some input for a project I'm involved in. I have two sets of 3050 clusters in two sites. The primary site is serving CIFS data to home and project directories. The secondary site is just the snapvault destination, and tape backup source. Now, we're planning to do a DR implementation for this setup. From what I can recall, there are a few things that you need to do to make it work: 1. have snapmirror and snapvault (SM-SV combo) license at the secondary site. I can turn a snapvaulted volume snapshot into a RW volume. Is that correct? 2. I copy the cifs shares config file from the primary filer, edit it a little bit, and paste it into the secondary filer 3. I need refresh my DNS server to point to the secondary filer IP address using the primary filer hostname. Anything else that I need to do? I heard something about changing netbios names as well, but I don't really understand windows enough to know what that will do to help with the DR. Oh, and also, the MS active directory domain are running on win2k3 servers. I'm assuming that different AD versions will significantly in make DR implementations different? Thanks for any feedback

So far as I know, it's still logged to /etc/messages with output. It will show any corrections and completion status. It does not prompt for committal of changes, unlike wack/wafl_check. Hi toasters... currently i am running a wafliron. My question now is, do i get any kind of output after wafliron has finished?? Do i see if there where any wrong blocks and if Ontap was able to solve the problem or not?? Or is there any extra command to assure that there is no problem in wafl left?? If you do this, I assume you had to set some thresholds somewhere on the filer right? I didn't realize that sending those thresholds would do anything other than send snmp traps.
