I've never understood that logic: If the disk is fully wiped, and "Safe Enough" to consider the data unrecoverable, then why restrict what you can do on that filer. You could always move the disk elsewhere (another filer, or a PC, or whatever) if you really wanted to try to get stuff back from it. Davin. Hello, I'm decommissioning my old 740 running Ontapp 6.2.2 and would like to wipe the disk content. Any ideas how can I do it? Thanks in advance. Oskar

Increasing the size of disks in an existing array

Hi, I have 'inherited' several filers including FAS 270's and FAS 940's which only have 72GB drives and we are now running very low on spares and the company I work for is reluctant to buy another shelf, it has therefore it has been proposed that we remove a disk at a time from a volumes raid group and replace it with a larger drive (300GB) and then once the raid has recovered then remove the next disk and repeat the procedure until all the disks in the volumes raid raid group have been replaced with larger ones. My initial question is - is this possible and if so once all the drives in a particular raid group that makes up a volume have been replaced with larger ones will that show immediately as free space available in that volume or will we need to do something else to get the filer to see the additional free space? snmp traps down/up-events

Hi toasters, i have a strange issue which i was not aware of right now. We had a reboot of one of our nearstores these days and i recognized within our monitoringtool that we had only two events for the system: 1. system cold start 2. appliances is overall status changed to critical Plus is got an e-mail from the system saying REBBOT but this was too a few seconds after the "System Cold start" . But the suprising fact about that is, that we first got the cold start and then the critical event. Shouldn't it be the other way round?!?! Right, but if you do that, you have to put all of non-qtreed data into a qtree on the destination. You can't do <dest_file>:/vol/<vol_name>/- as the destination. It won't work. You have to specify an actual qtree as the destination which means your data won't be in the root of the volume on the destination.
