Linux/MySQL instances on VM/ESX

Howdy all, I'm new to the ESX arena and have been consuming CentOS instances on several ESX servers in house. These CentOS instances are an appliance image my company makes that runs a potentially busy MySQL db. We have so far been using only locally attached disk, but I'm thinking filers rock using NFS to ESX host, and most probably there is a best practices guide published by Netapp. I no longer support filers and as such don't have a NOW account anymore, but am curious to how well filers support ESX datastore requirements. Could anybody advise me on what the standard practice is? Direct attach GigE links from the filer to the ESX host and run NFS? How many instances of MySQL can you get away with on an ESX host mounting filer volumes? TIA -Bob B.

7.3.1 simulator missing domains info?

I'm looking at the statit output on a sim running 7.3.1 and I'm not seeing the Multiprocessor statistics that includes domain info - could anyone who's running 7.3.1 confirm that it either exists or has been removed? wafl realocate unable with snapshots

according to netapp, i can not do a reallocate if there are underlying snapshots, the issue is that the snapshots are for a large (3TB) oracle db, and will not be rotated off anytime soon. is there a way around this ? any ideas ?

Thanks for all the advice - thanks to Romeo Theriaults awesome tool I'll run some stats over time and see how things look. I'll probably give Logicmonitor a quick look and see how it compares to DFM. VMware + (Linux) MySQL on NetApp

Hi, I am wondering if a lot of people out there are running VMware virtualized Linux MySQL machines on NetApp storage ? Any thoughts on how to configure things to get the best performance ? What are people generally doing ? - database on vmdk file in VMware datastore (and from ESX using either NFS, iSCSI or FCP to access the datastore) - NFS mount of a NetApp volume from the Linux MySQL machine - iSCSI LUN mapping from the Linux MySQL machine - FCP LUN mapping (via Raw Device Mapping in VMware) Any thoughts and recommendations ? High CPU utilizations and file I/O

Hi all, From some days the CPU of a 3020C reaches 100% slowing down all processes. Maybe some area of a 3020HA is stressed on I/O. There's a VMware on NFS farm using both servers and VDI also! The customer states that in the NFS volume for VMware there's an high activity of continous destruction and building of VMware vdisk... Is there some tool that can let me understand which volume is under stress and in case move it on the other head? Or maybe this filer is undersized for the job that has been asked... Regards, Dott.
