ZFS support on OSSV (Open System SnapVault) ?

Toasters, Are there any plans to support backup of ZFS volumes using OSSV(Solaris) ? To put it another way, what would be a good way to backup ZFS volumes to a NetApp. Anyone doing this currently? Thanks -G

Max number of disks reached

Hi all, is there a way to bypass the max numbers of disk supported by a FAS3140C? This limit is 420 disks and I could have other 56 disks to add. Regards,

multipahting shelves and disk ids

I haven't looked at this in a bit, but just wanted to confirm - if I have a ds14 shelf with multipathing, the each disk will have a single disk id, but will be visable with a distinct path via "storage show disk -p". Is there any instance where a disk would show up with two "ids" based on being accessed via two loops. -Nick

Snaplock option

Hi everybody, I have a FAS250 with only one aggregate. I bought a snaplock license and I would like to use it. I found the following command to create an aggregate with snaplock feature (aggr create aggrname -L snaplock_type...), but is it possible to add snaplock options to an existing aggregate ? If yes, how to do it ? Thanks in advance. Hi all, I did a little googling, but after nothing came up in the first pass I thought I'd see if anyone knew off the top of their head: how long can a nvram battery in the current generation of storage systems protect data w/o power? In other words, how long can a system remain down before the data goes kaput? Thanks in advance, Nick

LTO5 drives and OnTap ?

Hello. Does anyone have any word on when LTO 5 drives will be supported in OnTap ? I'm getting an evaluation unit in a few days and was hoping to see it work with my FAS3040 with FC connections. I've never had FC tape drives on this 3040, the FC card has just sat there unused. I have had LTO3 SCSI drives attached to it. Does anyone have any experience with just connecting a new tape drive to an unused FC port like this ? I would like to think that the worst that would happen is that the 3040 just wouldn't see it, but I guess a filer panic could happen. We are a bit behind the OnTap curve, we are still at 7.2.6.1P3. We went to 7.3.1, but got hit with a filer panic loop due to linux clients hitting it with the rquota bug, so we had to downrev back. That was a while ago, but its left a bad taste for 7.3 for us.. What exactly SMSQL does?

Hi all, I'm experiencing a lot of issues on a customer site where they've applied the Microsoft security best practice in a SQL2005 cluster environment. So that, the SQL Service account DOES NOT belong to the BUILTIN\Administrators group and DOES NOT HAVE sysadmin role on all the named instances. Most of issues have been fixed with SMSQL 5.0D2P2 and they belong to this http://now.netapp.com/NOW/cgi-bin/bol?Type=Detail&Display=358276 but nevertheless this we've discovered that the migration is only partial (not all the SQL directory structure is copied/moved on the NetApp LUN) because some path are missed after the migration wizard (i.e. LOG, REPLDATA...) and only the DATA path is migrated. Startup parameters still continue to belong to old paths and SQL Service Agent registry keys still continue to belong to old path!!! So we can fix the named instance to start but the SQL Agent will never be able to start. Worth, the ownership of dbs is changed to the user used as SMSQL service account! And the ACL on the file system is changed to it too! This has never been happened before on environment where SQL Service account belong to BUILTIN\Administrators and bug states that it should be also a domain admins!!! Terrible. This is a great security bug to have a service account belonging to domain admins! What I would to know is what exactly SMSQL does during the migration/configuration at level of properties of db (both system and user ones) and file systems. We can move the data manually on the right NetApp LUNs but to backup instances with SMSQL we must run the config wizard and I want to be sure that nothing will be changed. raid group size

Hello Toasters! Ok, trying to understand somthing here. I have a V-series 3140 running DOT 7.3.2.p3. We reciently added a SAS card, and 2 new SAS shelves (450 flavor :)) When I go to create a new aggr, I only see 14 disk as an option for the raid group size. I dont have the option of raid4 or raid dp. I called support, and he said they changed this in the GUI to only have 14 as the max option as of DOT 7.3.1..... This does not sound right. yes, I know I can create an aggr, and change the raid group size.
