Yes, I had the same question.  Similar results can occur on the UNIX side
when editing files with vi if the local partition that holds vi's tmp files
(often /usr/tmp) is full.  (Note that the filer itself doesn't necessarily
have to be full.  It could be the machine people are doing editing from.)

I had similiar problems with Wincenter Pro and Interdrive
(mounting shares for PCs using NFS)
