Flash Cache statistics question: Invalidate vs Evict?

I'm trying to analyze the performance of a Flash Cache (PAMII) module and can't seem to find a detailed definition of the "inval" and "evict" metrics. All the documentation simply states the obvious with the very unhelpful "blocks evicted/invalidated from cache per second". Both eviction and invalidation are removal of blocks from the cache, but what I want to know is why are they removed. Essentially what causes an eviction verses an invalidation? Is a block "evicted" because it was never used and a timer expired? Is a block "invalidated" when the cache is full and a useful block is thrown out to make room for a new block? Hi, We have 9 DS14 Mk2 shelves with PSU, with ESH, without disks to go to a good new home. Includes some inter-shelf cables and some fibre ESHs. These worked fine when decommissioned, but no guarantees. This stuff is to be picked up in Amsterdam (NL). how to set options.raid.timeout in ontap 6.5 to avoid filer reboot

Hi guys, i have a very old f840 without maintenance. I have the nvram battery broken. So in this case the parameter raid.timeout will stop the filer after the setted hours value. I have dataontap 6.5 There is a way to disable/avoid the filer reboot ? setting the value to 0 stop the filer immediately. There an infinite value to disable the halt ? Trouble booting an F740

An F740 that has been powered off for over a year has some data I would like to recover. The system boots, but complains about low nvram batteries, and halts. Is there a way I can bypass this shutdown to copy some things off? Fri Sep 9 16:30:53 EDT [mgr.boot.reason_ok:notice]: System rebooted after an internal halt. VSS providers and EMC NetWorker

EMC NetWorker as of 7.6.2 does not support hardware VSS providers for backup, but also has no facilities for selecting from multiple installed providers. Oh mighty toasters list, is anyone here using NetWorker for tape and also any of the SnapManager tools for any of the Microsoft applications, and if so, how do you do it and stay supported? I appreciate that the fellow at teaparty.net for hosting this. That being said it sends a political message that isn't intended for the NetApp community. I know its not related, but by looking at the url, external folks wouldn't know that. Would it be possible to host this on google groups instead of moving from one boutique mailing list hosting service to another? Just a thought. Brian

Backup to tape when using SME

We are using SnapManager for Exchange to take snapshot/snapmirror type backups of our Exchange databases, which are stored on iSCSI LUNs on NetApp. We use NetApp's Single Mailbox Restore product to do restores. This works well, but we would like to migrate the backup data to tape in a way which makes restores (relatively) straightforward, so that we can increase our retention period. Our tape backup/archive solution is TSM. Can anyone on this list suggest methods to achieve this? We are considering the TSM Exchange agent, but it seems to duplicate rather than leverage the functionality of SME. OnTAP version is 7.3.5. We don't have SnapVault licensed. If I didn't genuinely need this list to do my job I'd have dropped you whiners a month ago. I am one of the troubled many who have been receiving the toaster list emails for some time now but have been unable to post due to quirks of the ancient "majordomo" list previously graciously hosted at mathworks.com. I have benefited hugely from the information I've seen on this list, and when I've needed to I've had a co-worker (who could post) forward my questions to the list. In most cases I've found this list to be a better troubleshooting tool than NetApp's premium support. So I was delighted to see the list updated so that I'd be able to post, regardless of the letters following the "@" in the email address. I was grateful to see that someone had stepped up to solve the problem instead of whining about it.
