Doesn't the folder itself count as an object? Are there also sub-folders? latency figures visible via SNMP?

Looking through the mibs, I didn't see anything that seemed to be a match, but I thought I'd ask. Is there a way to grab the nfs latency figures via SNMP? netapp> stats show nfsv3 nfsv3:nfs:nfsv3_ops:3917/s nfsv3:nfs:nfsv3_read_latency:2254.40us nfsv3:nfs:nfsv3_read_ops:2022/s nfsv3:nfs:nfsv3_write_latency:420.56us nfsv3:nfs:nfsv3_write_ops:605/s I'm hoping it's in there and I've just missed it. Someone out there has to know this. When I go into a folder in CIFS that only has files in it, it shows in the status bar 22 objects (files). I count, and verify. 22 files. I go up a folder, and right click the folder and do a 'properties', and it shows 23 files! I am NOT showing ~snapshot, and it shouldn't matter if I did. My customer has the same problem, only the difference in his folder is 2 files (122 versus 120). Downgrading Data ONTAP?

Hi, we recently updated ONTAP from 7.2.5.1 to 7.3 on our 3140c, which led to many problems : one head doesn't boot anymore, so the cluster failover is impossible; the other head (currently in takeover) seems to reboot randomly every week; and when this happens, it freezes some of our RHEL4 servers (kernel panics, somewhere in lockd). Putted shortly: this is a mess. The issues are currently investigated by NetApp, but it may take some time until we see a corrective action on their side. So we're investigating another solution, which would be to downgrade back into 7.2.5.1 (since it appears 7.2.6 doesn't seem very stable either). Would any of you know how to do that, or could point me at a proper procedure somewhere? NetApp support was unresponsive on this one, and I'm a bit concerned about possible changes to the WAFL layout or something similar between 7.2 and 7.3. Simon

MS DPM

Toasters, Does anyone use Microsoft DPM for Exchange backups in a MSCS cluster using NetApp storage(iscsi)? Whenever the Exchange virtual server is moved over to a new node, DPM wants to perform consistency checks on the protected storage groups - according to Microsoft this should not be the case - if I were to expand the volume, we would need to run DPM consistency checks but not during normal cluster failover (DPM performs block level backup). I am having an issue where after every failover, I have to re-run consistency checks on all my storage groups (100 Storage groups!). I had a case open with Microsoft who asked me to contact NetApp - NetApp support wasn't very helpful in this matter. Before I proceed further, I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue. Thanks, Darish

FAS2050 with 20 disks

Hi, I plan to implement a FAS2050 with 20 internal SAS disks. I intend to have 12 disks on one of the controller and 8 on the other. the idea being to make use of processing power of both controllers. Now the trade-off is the number of spindles in each aggregate possibly affecting performance. I have seen a few people use just 2 disks on the second controller with no spares and have the other 16 disks+2 spares on a single controller. which of these two would be a better option? -- Best regards, Premkumar Subramanian

I need to serve iscsi + CIFS. I would be servering around 1TB of cifs and 1.8 TB of iscsi data to vmware servers running SQL. We dont have any IOPS numbers. Question is what would be the performance impact...if any of a seperate aggregate of 8 disks on a seperate controller. Very slow large file operations

I need help, I cannot figure out how to troubleshoot this problem further. We have a rebranded 3070A with ~200 VMs running on it. Maybe 30 on a batch of FC disks and the rest on 2 aggrs of 33 SATA drives each. None of the VMs are disk IO intensive. When I try and copy a VM to a new volume I get EXTREMELY slow speeds, something on the order of 3 gig an hour. I am also seeing incredibly slow Snapvault transfers and initializations. I think that in part we are hitting the sequential read bug, but this occurs even on volumes that do not have SIS enabled. For instance I have a snapvault job running that's been going for 4 days (!) and only xfered 260 gig. And it's an update so should always be hitting data (and thus not having the bug). Statit shows the drives all under 15% utilization. It's over dual 10gigE connections with the preferred adapter set (there are also 2 1 gig VIFs on this box for user and admin access). I'm at a loss. IBM says we need to upgrade (we are at 7.2.4) but I am concerned that it's not going to fix our problem and downtime windows are difficult to get so I want to make sure it's resolved with as little interruption as possible. We are using fcp. I assume you are using 3 seperate network interfaces for iscsi traffic and the intra cluster and public traffic? File Copy between NTFS & UNIX Qtrees

Hi Toasters, I have setup 2 qtrees. QT1 is NTFS and QT2 is UNIX. File Data needs to be passed between the 2 QTREES in both directions which I am doing using ndmpcopy. However an unexpected consequence of this action is that the UNIX user account looses access to the UNIX QTREE after the copy if made from QT1 to QT2. Does anyone know what could cause this and how I can get around it? Both QTREEs are in the same Volume but I would not expect this to be relevant. thanks, Jimmy
