nfs not working until cifs terminate

Hi toasters, today we had a strange issue on one of our R200 with 7.2.3 on it. The nstore was not serving nfs at all. There was no messages in the logs and the r200 was feeling quite well doing some cifs-ops and some other stuff. We really had no clue what was going on and support was confused, too. The only idea we had was to reboot the system (although ontap is no windows, ha :D), so we connected to the console and started to shut down cifs first in order to shut down the system and suprise suprise, as soon as cifs termination was finished NFS started to work again. We then started cifs too and now everything is fine again. I am really confused how this is related. Has anybody ever had this effect or an idea upon this? Best Regards and thanks in advance Jochen

Hi, I'm new to this list, and my english is not very well... i've got some nfs problems, so i wan't to read some log's. With the option nfs.mountd.trace on the filer logs some stuff to /etc/log/ems, is that right? the ems log, looks like some pseudo xml, is there a special tool to analyze the file? are there other possibilitys to debug nfs on the filer? Meanwhile i read the documents and it looks like ndmpcopy is the best option as i have limited downtime (3hrs total). I will also try out VFM and robocopy on the simulator. I would like to thank each one of you for taking time to answer the queries. We have ordered few more Filers and i hope to improve my knowledge of the netapp systems by then. Hello experts, I am very new to the netapp world. Sorry if this has been answered already or if it sounds stupid.I have the following situation, What we have is a FAS940 with DS14MK2 shelves(3nos). There is a qtree "proj-CFD" which is 200GB in size and the containing volume is 500GB. The volume is 90% full. I have been asked to increase the space for the qtree to 400GB. Previous admin created the aggregate(Aggr1) with a raidsize of 8 and there are two raidgroups with 8disks in each raidgroup. I have three spares and adding these to the current aggregate would create another raidgroup of 3 disks and i will be left with 1 usable disk (we have raid_dp) and also i will have no spares left. But fortunately there is another aggregate(Aggr2) with a raidsize of 16 and there are 14 disks in that aggregate now. Now my question is, how can move the "proj-CFD" qtree to a volume in Aggr2 with minimum downtime and keeping all the ACLs intact(It is ntfs only). Thanks -- With warm regards Lohit

FS3040 FC ports

Can someone confirm that the FC ports on the motherboard of the FAS3040 are the same 2Gbit/s FC as those on the FAS3020? I know there is also 4Gbit/s but thought these were only available as a optional FC HBA in the FAS3040. Can you also confirm the type of FC ports on the FAS6070. Are they 2 or 4 Gbit/s FC? How do they compare to the motherboard FC interfaces on the FAS3040. Thanks Ed

VMWare/Netapp TR-3428 question

Hi all, There's a VBS script in TR3428 that works with VCenter/VCB to do the hot snaps on quiesced VM machines/netapp volumes. I see that it calls the ssh command (as there is no rsh in VI3 I think). Question is, for the windows side, what's the best way to get an ssh client going? I don't think that plink works with this script, although I'm sure I could modify it to do so, but I'd rather use the ssh client that was meant to be used with the script. Is it openSSH? The other responses you've got so far pointed out that QSM would be the best choice to move the data to a volume on another aggregate. But I'd like to point out that it actually is possible to add some of those spare disks to your existing aggregate aggr1 with raidsize 8 & raid_dp. First you need to bump your raidsize for that aggregate using the "aggr options" command. Next, when adding disks to your aggregate, use the "-g" option to the "aggr add" command to specify the raid group you want to add the disks to. You will need to use the "-f" flag to force this, too (and you shouldn't be doing this if you ever want to go back to ONTAP 6.2). snapmirror question

Hi, I have a short snapmirror question for the experts... I try to set up a qtree snapmirror where the source is a snapshot (-s option) I couldn't find any example with a snapshot as source and every syntax I tried failed. The source should be a snapshot named snapshot.latest on volume testvol1. what I tried: snapmirror initialize -s snapshot.latest -S 3020:vol/testvol1/source_qtree 270:vol/testvol2/dest_qtree can someone please post an example with a snapshout as source... thanks a lot! cheers, alex
