There is also a ctrl-key command that will bring whatever you were typing to the current command line (like up-arrow in bash or Windows). Would someone from NetApp enlighten us on this one? There is a man page about this config file and there is a template file named /etc/syslog_conf_template (or so ...). Copy this template file to /etc/syslog.conf and edit it you will see the wished result. b.t.w. The "syslog(d)", "syslog.conf" man pages at ONTAP are in my humble opinion not the best. Can passwords in LDAP be encrypted when being used for authentication?

We have a 760 and are using an OpenLDAP database for authentication of CIFS clients. It only seems to work when the passwords are stored as clear text. This is an unacceptable security risk. It is disturbing enough to pass clear text passwords over the network. The /etc/passwd file should store DES hashed passwords so I was hoping that hashed passwords could be stored in LDAP. We are running in a workgroup with some Windows XP Home Edition so NT Domain and AD authentication are no good to us. Anyone else have this problem?

Hi I've installed the 6.5.1R1 version on our filers and notice that the ldap options has now more visible possibilities. I have replace some fields by 'xxx' for confidenciality reasons. I have used Unison to migrate data and to keep data synchronized. upgrade to 6.5.1R1

Dear All, I want to upgrade from 6.4.2 to 6.5.1R1, i have Oracle 9i Rac on solaris 8. I also, have Oracle financial and Ms Exchange . Do i really need to upgrade ?? will the upgrade improve my backup?? it is worthy to do a down time for this release and what is the difference between the new release and my current release (other than the security fixes)

I have not gotten much response. Hopefully it is due to the timing of my Friday afternoon email. If you have done a DR project with Database and SnapMirroring, I'd love to hear about your experience. Over the weekend I just came across another big obstacle to using SnapMirroring - you can't cascade qtree SnapMirror! This one seems to be a very big restriction as it means wasting quite a bit of space to do things like backup and DR. We have been SnapMirroring the daily changes from one of our cluster F940 filer to the other for backup. In looking through the SnapMirror log I see that we are snapmirroring about 23GB of data on average. This is on a database of about 200GB total. We were thinking about using the max of the daily snapmirror number to size the pipe we need to the DR site. That is figuring to be a fair size pipe. Now our DBA is telling me that using Oracle's archive log they could just ship the logs to the remote site and play it back and achieve pretty much the same result. And the archive logs are averaging only about 4.5GB. That is 1/5 the size. It is fairly significant when you are shipping it half-way across the country! (We are in Foothill Ranch, CA and our DR site is in St. Louis). If that is true then management will probably choose to go with log shipping as opposed to SnapMirroring the data. I'm going through the data that we are SnapMirroring to figure out if there is something wrong with our setup. I think we are actually SnapMirroring the archive logs as well. Has anyone else been down this path? Any other ideas or suggestions? We are thinking that the log shipping method is going to involve alot more manual work and would like to avoid it if possible but we need to have good justification for that as well. Derek

There are no slots in a FAS250 so there is no way to add a fiber nic card. However, it comes with 2 copper GigE built-in as I remember.
