Windows folder redirection and cifs.homedir

When I attempt, via group policy, to redirect a users "My Documents" folder to their home directory on the filer using the CIFS.HOMEDIR variable I get the following error logged on the windows client: Failed to perform redirection of folder My Documents. The full source path was <C:\Documents and Settings\colinj\My Documents>. The full destination path was <\\ccis-windows\net\myhome>. At least one of the shares on which these paths lie is currently offline. It's not clear to me why it isn't finding the users home directory and unable to mount it. Is this a known problem? Can it be made to work? I did find one other reference to this in the mailing list archive but there was no posted resolution. DC address discovery

I am getting messages every 4 hours that the filer is searching for new Domain Controllers: Tue Aug 26 18:04:23 IDT [Auth04:info]: Starting DC address discovery for NSTA-NT. Tue Aug 26 18:04:23 IDT [Auth04:info]: Starting WINS queries. Tue Aug 26 18:04:23 IDT [Auth04:info]: Found 3 BDC addresses through WINS. Tue Aug 26 18:04:23 IDT [Auth04:info]: Found 1 PDC addresses through WINS. Tue Aug 26 18:04:23 IDT [Auth04:info]: DC address discovery for NSTA-NT complete. 2 unique addresses found. I tried setting prefdc in the cifs command, but this does not help. CIFS is working fine, I just want to eliminate these checks, or at least relegate them to once a day at 2am if possible! You might ask why bother? Well, once I saw that at the time of this check the filer "hiccupped" and I lost some CIFS sessions. So I would like to eliminate it if possible. Mike, By the way, NetApp also sells the X6512A Media Interface Adapter. It was originally intended for filers with optical FCAL controllers and copper based FC9's & DS14's, but it should also work for your application. Mike, Take a look at Stratos Lightwave. We use their converters all the time for various copper-optical fibre channel applications. Does anyone know of a unsupported/supported copper to optical converter for the FAS250 copper fibre tape port? Our fibre switches do not support cooper Gbic's, and the LTO tape drives we have only support optical fibre connections (point to point).

Ontap Choice for DS-14 MK2

Dear All, I have a F810 running 6.1.2R3 with a DS-14 shelf. I plan to add another DS-14 shelf to it and was shipped the DS-14 MK2 instead of the "old" DS-14 shelf. Since the MK2's have the new ESM connectors, which i cant use to connect to my old DS-14, i was also shipped out the old style connectors and have swapped out the fiber connectors. I gather that i need atleast 6.1.3 on my F810 to work with the MK-2 shelf. I just wanted to poll the list for recommendations Data Ontap versions and other gotchas that i should be aware of. Hi Charles, Your DBA doesn't understand what qtrees are about. Not his fault, he's probably used to working with block I/O storage. A tree quota applied to a qtree will incur the same performance hit regardless of the state of the qtree "capacity". i.e. every write will require a hash table comparison, which may cause it to respond with a "disk full" if the quota limit is reached, or an alteration (usually an increment) to the hash table if the write is completed successfully. One of the NetApp guys can provide a more accurate technical description, but that's the general idea. You can resize the tree quota both ways in front of the DBA to help him understand that tree quotas have nothing to do with the layout of data on the disks. (i.e. increase the tree quota so the qtree is only 40% full, run a DB test, shrink the tree quota so it's 99% full then run the same test). full qtree performance hit?

Hi, We're running a test oracle DB connected to a netapp filer. Our DBA is convinced that when the qtrees are close to full (>90%) the performance goes down despite the fact that the parent volume is only 50% full. Does this make sense or is it more likely the apparently slowdown is coming from somewhere else? -C.
