I had similar problems. Basically I tried dropping back to 6.2R2 and doing 'cifs setup' and it still didn't work. I then dropped all the way back to 5.3.7, though I had to disconnect my DS14 shelf for this to work. Luckily, I had an FC8/9 shelf on there for the root volume already. Anyway, once I was running 5.3.7, I was able to do the 'cifs setup' and join the NT/Win2k domain without any problems. I then upgraded back to 6.3.1 and I'm still part of the domain. As far as I know, I have the full privs needed to add a host into the ActiveDirectory stuff, and I would authenticate properly as myself when I tried to run cifs setup under 6.3.1, but it would fail with permission denied errors. Since we were in a bit of a rush to get this system setup and deployed, I don't have access to it again to try some other suggestions from NetApp, which mostly involve turning on logging and access tracing so I can see what's causing the access denied problems. Thanks for all the suggestions people had, I wish some of them had worked. John, We added the "Computer Object" into the domain prior to running CIFS Setup (waited a few minutes for replication). OnTap 6.3.1 and cifs setup problems.

Hi, I'm having a problem getting an F760 with NFS/CIFS running OnTap 6.3.1 to actually talk to our Win2K domain properly. I'm assuming it's a priv problem on the PDC side, but I don't know enough of how to fix it. Basically, whenever I try to run 'cifs setup', it fails at the end with the following message: Could not create Active Directory account for the filer: No such object CIFS could not create server machine account. But I'm supposed to have the privs with my account to add this machine into ActiveDirectory. Has anyone else run into stuff like this? And does anyone have any hints on what I need to do on the Windows PDC to give myself the privs I need to get this done? 144GB Fiber Channel drives in the field

hiya anyone using the 144GB drives? currently we have DS14s filled with 36GB drives. these are used in a production environment, so of course we need maximum uptime. we're considering getting more DS14s filled with either 72GB or 144GB drives. we want the most bang for the buck, but i have concerns about the 144GB drives. anyone out there have any experience with them? are the reconstruct times for a 144GB disk proportionally prohibitive when compared to 72GB and 36GB drives? how long does it take to reconstruct a failed 144GB drive on a hot spare compared to 72GB and 36GB disks, under consistent filer workload and raid reconstruct speed? are there performance issues to consider if we were to go with 144GB rather than 72GB? any other pros and cons? thanks in advance, kallen

What was the speed you were expecting? And what did you get? When writing to all (9) R100 volumes concurrently, I got to a max of 30Mbytes/Sec. That got the R100 to 100% cpu constant. (The source filers weren't that busy). Hi Frank, The issue is possibly one of expectation... The R-100 is, after all, intended to be a "near-line" device. Certainly, the CPU, RAM and NVRAM figures are far below what would be normal for a production "on-line" Fibre Channel based filer of similar capacity. Having said that, the performance should be at least better than a tape array. There are several configuration issues that may affect networking performance to the box. Do you have any specific figures? At least, run a "sysstat 1" during a busy period, capture some of the output and post it. I'm working with a customer who just got an R-100 and the performance is much less than we expected. I'm wondering what type of performance other people are experiencing with their R-100, or for that matter with other similar low-cost drive storage options.
