disappearing CIFS permissions ...

Has anyone had any problems with setting CIFS share permissions and then having them disappear?? We have a series of scripts that run at night that manage our users in our NT4 domain. Our users are created and then for each user a home share is created on our filer. Every once in a while we will get a complaint that one of our new users can not access their home share. Actually, spares don't count as far as the software limits are concerned. Data Ontap will prevent you adding disks to a live volume if you are hitting the volume or total filer storage limits, but the number of hot spares is only limited by the available id's on the FCAL loop. SnapRestore enables you instant reversion to the selected snapshot state of the whole volume (all Data ONTAPs) or single file (Data ONTAP 6.2 or later). "Instant" means without copying data. You have to be aware of the following drawbacks: - It is one-way trip (you are loosing all SnapShot copies that were collected after the SnapShot that you selected for reversion). - SnapRestoring of single file has negative performance impact (this operation causes fragmentation of WAFL file system). Hi, I have a couple of questions. The first is regarding spare disks. I'm going to have a fully loaded F810 soon; 2 shelves with a total of twenty-one 72GB drives. Since I will have spare slots in the shelves I was wondering if I can setup the netapp with a 22nd drive as a hot-spare instead of "wasting" one out of my 21 disk pool. The specs on the F810 say it maxes out at 1.5 TB raw which I will be hitting with the 21 drives. And a much more general question; what does SnapRestore do? … [View More]

Hello, A question for anyone running clearcase in a mixed environment... We have a PC domain and a UNIX domain. Each has users accessing clearcase. I have currently created the clearcase_abld user in the UNIX domain, and made him a member of a group. I have also created a clearcase_albd user in windows, and made a group with he same name as the UNIX group. Art, There were (4) different 18GB disks used in the StorageShelf FC8's and FC9's: X221A FC8 Only X221B FC8 Only X221C FC8 & FC9 X221D FC8 & FC9 A couple years ago we tested the X221A's and X221B's in FC9's for a few weeks to satisfy our own curiosity. Hi all, I have a serious issue with a F87. It send errors determinating that the SCSI disk on 0b.2 is broken. I replaced it but the errors appeared again.
