Thanks for all the feedback. It looks like I either need to switch software or wait for veritas to implement DAR. A quick look shows that almost every other NDMP player already has it. I have 300gb volumes and several hundred users on each volume.... it takes many hours to find a 500k word document :-( . Snapshots reduce the requirement to go to tape to a minimum but I've had to do it a couple of times over the last week or two. DAR does not require V3+. NetBackup 4.5, shipping this month, supports NDMP V2, V3, V4. One more netbackup question...

I find restoring from a tape extraordinarly slowwwww. I have home directories on a clustered pair of F840 running 6.1.1r2. I have several volumes at about 300gb usable. When I need to restore a file from a users directory it can take up to 6+ hours (DLT 8000). It appears most of the time is taken searching for the files... is there anything you can suggest (including any white papers) to speed up this process? thanks again Don

What version of Netbackup are you using? can NIS user and local user function at the same time ?

Hi toasters, I use Windows domain server to authenticate my filer users, and there is a unix qtree which I configured to be the users' home dir. my filer is also a NIS client in a Unix domain. Now I add some entries to the filer's local passwd file, and these users want to map their home dirs from their windows laptop. The problem is when they are mapping, some of them succeeded, some failed because they can not pass the authentication The passwd file is like this root:x:0:1::/: nobody::65535:65535::/: abzhang::25073:39::/: martma::25269:39::/: johli:25270:39::/: the nsswitch file is like this #Auto-generated by NIS Tue Mar 26 10:12:13 GMT 2002 hosts: files nis dns passwd: files nis netgroup: files nis group: files nis shadow: files nis Could anyone help ?

Jason, I have spoken to some of my contacts (ClearCase development engineers) at Rational and there are no issues with ClearCase and DST either on filers or other storage platforms. NetApp filers have been certified for use in a ClearCase environment since 1996 and I am not aware of any DST issues as a result of using NetApp with ClearCase. Victoria J. Backing up to netapp controlled drivers...

With netbackup, is it possible to backup a unix system (eg: solaris) to a tape device which is direct connected to the netapp? What I'm trying to do is to connect a DLT7000 to a netapp F740. Using netbackup I want to backup the netapp but also backup sun machines that reside elsewhere on the network. Thanks in advance for any tips. don

Script to delete snapshots for Exchange

Is anybody using a script to delete snapshot made by snap manager for exchange ver 1.01. At present I am deleting it manually once it reaches 31 but if somebody has a script that does it automatically that would be great. Mustafa
