Use for bad drives

I have a couple of expired 18GB FC drives and am wondering what to do with the bodies. I do not want to throw them away because electronics are not good for the environment. Does NetApp take them back for "recycling." Hidden .snapshot on NFS?

Is it possible to hide .snapshot when using NFS instead of CIFS? We've tried options.nfs.show_snapshot=off and even, just for kicks, options.cifs.show_snapshot=off ... but it still shows up. Is this a known limitation? Thanks

Linux Client issues

Hello Toasters. This isn't really a NetApp specific problem, but what better group to tap for NFS info than this. I've got several NetApp Filers serving, among other things, a pair of VALinux boxes running Linux (kernel 2.2.13 and 2.2.14). The odd thing is that one of the boxes seems to have no problems using the filers. However the other box (2.2.14-5.0.14csmp) keeps throwing fits that look like this: Mar 7 14:06:37 willy kernel: nfs: server 10.100.2.203 not responding, still trying Mar 7 14:06:37 willy kernel: nfs: server 10.100.2.203 not responding, still trying Mar 7 14:06:39 willy kernel: nfs: task 4788 can't get a request slot Mar 7 14:06:39 willy kernel: nfs: task 4789 can't get a request slot Mar 7 14:06:39 willy kernel: nfs: task 4790 can't get a request slot Mar 7 14:13:07 willy kernel: nfs: server 10.100.2.203 OK Mar 7 14:13:13 willy last message repeated 4 times The strange thing here is that the filer does not go offline, the other box is using it at the same time with not problems. Also these errors (in this cycle) start when as user starts a transfer and end a few minutes later. Any ideas? I don't belive this to be a networking issue at this time. ACL question

I'm having an odd problem with ACL interactions. I have a volume with a mixed qtree. The ACLs on this volume are all Full Control for DOMAIN\Administrator and everything but Full Control for DOMAIN\Domain Users. This volume is NFS mounted onto a solaris box. If a user creates a file and them creates a symbolic link to that file, the symbolic link cannot be removed by the user. I can remove the link as Administrator, and I can remove the link if, on the windows side, I add Full Control to the ACL. Any ideas? We are running OnTAP 6.1.1R2. barry

Cabinet power cord

Hi all, I have a Filer cabinet here with NEMA L6 - 20 plug. To convert it to IEC 309 type do I have to change the entire PDU or just change the plug to fit the socket. Any ideas?? thanks, Pramod

cifs broadcast wkstation message and|or cifs broadcast -v vol0 message work inconsistently. i can send my workstation a message several times and not get a message, and then 5 mins later i can do the same thing and it will work. does this work for anyone? i am getting inconsistent results with 6.1.1r2. no message appears on pc, and no error on filer. pktt does not show an smbsend. -- regards

I've got one volume (now that I look closer) that has a snapshot_for_backup.XXXX for about every day in the last two weeks that I would have expected a backup to be performed.
