spares_zero still exists, but you need to set your privledge move to diag rather than advanced. This is supposed to all be fixed in an upcoming release and there will be an officially blessed way to do this. Stay tuned. Benchmarks

Hi Srs. I´m looking for benchmark infomation about FILER 760, mainly about NVRAM and disk´s operations (reading and writing). We´ve got the Filer and Servers on a Gigaethernet network but when we see on switch statistics the thoughtput is slowly than a fastethernet. Flavio Cardoso

I'm looking for any benchmarking info. related using a NetApp instead of server-dedicated disk in a web server cluster; i.e., how many web servers can I run before a single NetApp device becomes slower than using dedicated disk per server? The more specific the benchmarks, the better (relating to types/versions of servers, OS, etc.). ---- Steve Sapovits

This comes up quite a bit. It all depends on who how sophisticated you think the person is who may be trying to retrieve the data is. For 99.99% of the world, just zero'ing the disks (even multiple times if it makes you feel comfortable) is enough. I suppose you could create some dummy data to put on the disks after you zero out the disks, then zero them out again. But that's a lot of time and effort to get you from 99.99% to 99.999%. If you are concerned about professional, government-backed efforts to recover the data, then your only real option is to destroy the disks entirely. Bust them into thousands of pieces and dispose of those pieces in different trash containers. While this is certainly expensive since you can't return or re-use the disks, it is by far the most secure. However, there are very few people who need this level of security, but it's an option if your data abosulutely cannot ever be recovered. Jan, Legato backup software needs to save client (NetApp) "index" information back to Backup server host. Create same pool name on Backup host's attached tape drive. If you don't have tape drive attached to backup server. You can create file device and label it same as NetApp pool. Make sure you have patch 001 for 6.0.1 Legato Networker. Problem renaming files

We have our CVS repository on a F840 running 6.1R1. I've been chasing (what I thought was) a CVS Commit problem re renaming files but now I think this may be a filer issue because I've been able to reproduce the problem outside of CVS. We're using FreeBSD. Basically I have group write permission to a directory where I want to rename a file. All attempts fail with a "Permission denied" error. Then I restored the directory from a tgz file and after that, everything started working fine! The owners, permissions, and modified dates were the same as before so I don't understand why restoring this directory would change anything. Previously we had our CVS repository on a F520 running 5.3.6 and we never had any problems. Please, can anyone explain this? Hi all, Forgive me if I asked a naive question. I believe there should be a user who can access filer's ndmp service. But I can not see such configurations on filer's ndmp options, is any user on filer ok for ndmp backup use? And on Legato networker, where i can specify the ndmp port which supposed to be 10000?
