Q. on Qtree/Volume/RAID group

I have few questions regarding qtree, volume and raid group 1) Is it ture that raid group is added to a volume automatically? 2) is there any command for creating new raid group? 3) when a qtree is created on a multi raid group volume, does the qtree span across all raid group? do you have control on which raid group the qtree can reside on? 4) when the max disk per raid group is increased, does it affect all raid groups? 5) I know if a new disk is added, it will be added to the last raid group of a volume. Assuming the answer to Q4 is yes, then what happen if the last raid group of a volume is filled and there exists raid group(not the last one) in the same volume that is not filled? TIA pok

power supply failed: What kind of fail?

One of our power supplies failed so we got the email to replace it. The support person asked us to determine what type of failure, fan, temperature, or just complete failure. Exchange on NetApp

Hi. I'm looking for anyone who is actually using their NetApp as the disk backend for Microsoft Exchange. How big is your data space? How are you connected (NetApp to Exchange) networkwise? How are you doing backups? We are looking at various options for growing our Exchange server, and some of the requirements include more, faster disk space; faster backup and recovery; recovery of individual mailboxes. I'm doing some information gathering on NAS and would appreciate it if anyone could take the time to answer these few, very brief questions: 1. Approximately what percentage of your production data is actually used for cross-platform file sharing? 2. Please rank the following reasons for using NAS in terms of their order of importance to you (with "1" being the Most important; "3" the least important) a. Cross-platform file sharing b. Ease of use c. Cost 3. What concerns, if any, do you have about your Network Attached Storage? 4. Are you currently considering deploying SANs for your storage requirements? F330's EOL (not)

In recently dealing with requoting support for our mix of filers, I find that technically the F300's haven't been declared EOL. The thing is, last time we paid for support, they wouldn't let us purchase software support for the F330's beyond April 2000, but that has come and gone and I wonder how close Netapp is to ONTAP 5.4. I was told that they wouldn't let us get software support beyond then because no new versions of ONTAP would be available for the F330's. I had been told that as of ONTAP 5.4, SCSI based filers won't be supported, hence the EOL for the F330's. Clock size

The recent discussions on clocks brings to mind something that I have been wondering about for a while, namely what is the size of the clock in a filer. The reason why this is interesting is that filers happily set file times to 32 bit values and this is illegal unless the filer's clock is unsigned or greater than 32 bits. /Michael -- This space intentionally left non-blank.

In a clustered configuration, you will have two filers. In case one filer goes down, the other filer will take over the failing filer's disks so that data is still accessible. If there is a disk failure, RAID can take care of it. However, in case of a disk shelf failure, I think you are out of luck. C.P.
