That is correct. It is true NetApp recommends using NetApp's dump and restore command formats. ufsrestore is also supported as an alternative way to retrieve data in case filer is unavailable. BudTool incremental backups behaving differently when using NDMP

Hi All, We recently turned on NDMP on our filer and have noticed different behavior with incremental backups. If we level 0 a qtree, then use Solaris ufsdump piped to the NetApp restore command to move files from a Solaris box to that qtree (such that the file attributes like ctime and mtime are older than the level 0 time), a subsequent level 9 dump will not see the added files. If we turn off NDMP on the filer, so BudTool's dump.NetApp class reverts to rsh'ing a Ontap "dump" command, then that DOES pick up the added files. We opened a call with NetApp (110424), they claimed to have made "incremental backups with NDMP available" in 5.3.5R2P2 which we upgraded to, but we are still seeing the same behavior. Yes, they should, on the other hand if you munge the cable ( anyone ever bent a few pins on a SCSI cable?? ) it'd be a bit easier to come up with a replacement DB9 cable. Not that serious a question, but we just got a new F720 and was wondering why the Fibre card has the funky connector on it, but the filer and the trays have a 9-pin connector? I would think as much as the box was idiot-proofed they would of at least used a different connector for the shelves then from the serial devices.... Anyone know? Hints: be sure to turn on snmp with "snmp init 1" turn traps on with "snmp traps on" set the traphost with "snmp traphost add <host>" Notes: traps were introduced in 5.3 you have to get stuff right on the Openview end too If these don't solve your problem, please open a call with NetApp support. Is anyone using Openview to receive traps from a 740 filer? We have installed the MIB file into Openview on a Sun box and added several snmp traps to the /etc/rc file on the filer. If we pull a power supply a trap should be sent to Openview for translation and then send a page informing me of a problem. We are not seeing any traps from the filer but Netapps said this should work. If you have in input on our problem please send me a message.
