Hi, whenever I use user name instead of UID I will get below error : toaster>quota on web quota: user name ihsan not found (/etc/quota line 2). could not read quotas file toaster>
content of /vol/vol0/etc/quotas ihsan user@/vol/web 5M * user@/vol/web 3M
It won't fail if I use UID
Any suggestion ? I tried putting clients /etc/passwd in /vol/vol0/etc/passwd and it works. Do we have to have a /vol/vol0/etc/passwd ? If so, how about if we have let say 100000 users ? there has to be a smarter way which a newbie like me do not know of...
thanks, --abu ihsan

The quota setup needs to convert the user name to the user id. It needs either the /etc/passwd file to do so or, if NIS is being used, it will use NIS to find it.

The filer needs to be able to "convert" the name to a UID. This can be done in one of thwo ways:
1. NIS mapping 2. local /etc/passwd file
There is also another method to use. Instead of a name or UID, give an absolute path (relative to the filer) that is owned by the the user in question:
/vol/vol0/home/ihsan user@/vol/web 5M
--tmac
