does anyone have a guide/reference for the commands used, when we connect to the filer through serial connection...i am more interested in things/commands to do when connecting to the filer through serial IO port for the FIRST TIME...

When first connecting to a new filer, the filer usually already has ONTAP on it, and will give you an setup-wizard like.
You can find a load of documentation on http://now.netapp.com .. including how this wizard works.
By the way, when connecting to a netapp over serial, you have exactly the same possibilities as when connecting through SSH or telnet.

Are you interested in filer setup? You should have the "Systems Administrator Guide" to assist you with commands.
