Symantec and Network Appliance have entered into a strategic alliance involving reference selling, co-marketing and product development activities. Symantec has recently completed development work that enables CarrierScan Server to operate with the Net App® filer, using the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) technology, and NetCache, using the Internet Content Adaptation Protocol (iCAP) technology.

Please note:
The licensing model used for CarrierScan Server for Network Appliance is slightly different from the standard value licensing program; please contact Dave Zuckerman or Matt Piquette for more information. Support licensing is separate from product licensing. CarrierScan Server for Network Appliance is not part of the Symantec anti-virus solution suite. It is a highly scalable anti-virus solution that features all of the key, award-winning virus scanning technologies available in Symantec's complete line of anti-virus products and was built to meet the key needs of large enterprises, services providers, and carriers.

Establishes a strategic partnership with a world leader in the fast growing storage and caching market spaces. Significantly extends the reach of the Service Provider Solutions Division sales efforts into the enterprise and service provider space. Network Appliance employs more than 900 sales reps and SEs and provides products and services to leading corporations and service providers worldwide. By combining best of breed solutions, the partnership strengthens Symantec's position in the Internet security space. Extends visibility of Symantec's carrier grade anti-virus solution as a best of breed solution in the network storage and caching spaces. Symantec is the first to provide an anti-virus solution for both the filer and NetCache.
The partnership benefits enterprise and service provider organizations by offering them robust, best of breed solutions to help manage and store data, deliver content quickly and ensure data, networks and company operations are protected from spread of malicious viruses.
With CarrierScan Server featuring RPC, Net App filer customers can easily protect their storage systems from viruses. If a virus passes undetected through a firewall, the storage system stores the infected file and becomes a vehicle for the wide spread of viruses. CarrierScan Server can detect and repair infected files stored in the file system and prevent the spread of damaging viruses.
With CarrierScan Server featuring I-CAP, NetCache customers can speed the delivery of content and scan it for viruses at the gateway before the data reaches end users. Service providers can differentiate themselves by delivering CSS as a value-added Internet service to help create new revenue streams and reduce customer turnover.
The target audience ranges from global 2000 enterprises, ISPs, ASPs, government agencies to medium to small businesses and remote branch offices.
The partnership should not affect the sales of Norton AntiVirus corporate edition because this CarrierScan Sever solution works specifically with data and storage management and caching appliances. The CarrierScan Server for Network Appliance does not eliminate the need for a desktop anti-virus solution in an organization. It is a vital addition to a total anti-virus solution suite needed to protect multiple points of entry into an organization's network.
