Autosupport mail will tell you (in most cases ... ) if a disk has been broken.

You may also check device_map (abbreviated example below):

nfs15> fcstat device_map 9 Shelf 0: 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 Shelf 1: 14 13 12 11 XXX 9 8

The XXX marks a failed disk

The info may also be found in <netapp>:/etc/.broken_disks
