We have similar performance problems with the Legato NetApp client.
The NetApp's that we're backing up this was are old F520's, and we
get no more that about 1.2MB/sec during backups (but get easily over
6MB/s during regular heavy I/O).
Looking at mrtg graphs of the filer during backups has shown the
problem: CPU. While these Legato dumps are running, the CPU is
held about 95% busy!
Since we only use Unix/NFS mounts off the filers, we're about to start
backing up by NFS mounts to our backups host. We'll try ndmp at a
later stage.
