I have about 10 SQL server running SMSQL and a couple Exchange Clusters running SME. We ran into a bit of an issue where some servers were not running the automated or scheduled tasks, and it went unnoticed for a day or two. The completion or failure job is set via SM email even if successful, so I get a few emails a day to say the least. What I am looking for is what folks use out there to monitor their SMGR jobs/backups. • Do you just rely on email, and if a job does not come in at its specific time, become alarmed? • Do you run a sys logger against the filers and look for those jobs/alerts? • Do you run some fancy script I can bribe you for, and I will buy you a beer in return? • Looks like powershell for Netapp is cool. I ran a snapshot script that was pretty cool.. Maybe ask for some help there. What do you use ?
happy holidays!
Hi,
in my experience on SMSQL and SME I've only used email with or w/o messages logging a/o autosupport notification. In the last releases of those products the smtp message is generated with the attached log as option and the mail is sent ONLY on failure as option. The same for the related messages log or the autosupport, in case of failure only as option.
You could also "syslog" to something external that trigger another alert system but after all if a backup fail only in this case you need and email with the attached log to investigate the reasons.
Bye,
PS) can I have a look to that script you wrote? :-)
