Question about "disk fail" command. We are running NetApp Release 5.3.6R2. The System Admin guide says that "[t]he disk fail command permanently marks a disk as failed. You cannot reuse the disk; you must replace it." This is pretty strong statement. Can the disk be *unmarked* with some standalone utility or something? Or are we out of luck? :-(
Thanks in advance,

I won't give the full details, because it opens a can of worms, but if you're familiar with NetApp arcana, the instruction "toggle basic, then disk zero" should mean something...

Or, for fancy recent OnTAPs, advanced priv, then unfail.
Newfangled commands, I dunno...

when you are in 536r2 u dont have access to disk unfail command, use rather this :
filer> rc_toggle_basic filer*> disk_erase_label 8b.3 really ??? yes
then , remember that you might have to reboot the filer in order to be able to see the disk back as spare as you type sysconfig -r also , i would advise you to cycle power off-on disks shelf too when you reboot the filer (due to the old ontapp version :o)
