Anyone out there have recommendations for 3rd party support once a filer gets 4+yr old and/or EOL?
HW and phone support I can see being pretty easy to provide.... but how does s/w support go.. I guess no s/w contract with NetApp...then no s/w updates?
Just wondering what others have done.

There is an American company called Zerowait who do 3rd party NetApp support. They can sell you ex-lease hardware also.
They have an office in Sydney, Australia. I am not sure which other geographies outside the US they cover. We are satisfied customers.
You are correct that you only get hardware support and engineering support, but no software update support or access. They do have skilled engineers who can help with configuration issues.
