Any issues daisychaining an FC-9 shelf off an FC-8 shelf, or vice-versa? Both have 18GB drives. Does auto-termination on the FC-9 still work if there is an FC-8 shelf in the chain? I'll upgrade the filers to 5.3.6R1 to address the auto-termination bug with the FC-9's.

I have an F-740 with 3 FC-8 shelves and 1 FC-9 shelf, chained togethor. The documentation stated that I should put the FC-8's first and this was confirmed to me by NetApp tech support. I have had no problems with this configuration and it has been up and running for almost a year. One small thing that I did was that I don't trust auto-termination. This is not to say that I think NetApp did it wrong, I just don't trust it in general. I always use terminators on everything so therefore my FC-9 shelf has a terminator on it.

Yup, I just received e-mail from two Netapp folks saying the same thing, and that auto-termination on the FC-9's still work in that configuration. I haven't had any trouble with that on standalone shelves yet, so rather than potentially confusing the hardware with a physical terminator, I just leave it "open". So far so good.
