Our F630 filer has a 1000Base-SX card in it that we aren't using. We note that this is a "fiber" Gigabit, but all our other facilities are copper (1000Base-T). Is there an easy (i.e., cheap) way to convert?

If the card has a non-fixed GBIC, you could pull it out and replace it with a copper one - looks like they're on ebay for ~$50 (seems cheap to me, I'd check the part number). Otherwise, you'll need a media converter, which are generally pretty expensive.
Thanks, Matt

I hear you on the expensive part. Ouch on the fiber stuff. All very pricey.
We are running NetApp Release 5.3.6R2. Is this conversion simply pull the old card, replace with new one?

If you're changing the GBIC, you can do it while the box is still up - just slide the GBIC out and put the new one in. If you're swapping the card, halt the filer, swap the entire card, and power back on. Whether you need to upgrade your software is dependent on the type of card you get. Actually, as I scan the parts matrix - it looks like there aren't any copper gige cards that are supported by the f630....you might want to call netapp and find out if there's a card that's unofficially supported for that. Good luck.
