The fix for 16022 is not yet available but it's coming very soon. You will also need a Release Candidate 3 or greater version of Windows 2000. If your need is severe you should contact NetApp support. It might be possible to cut a patch.

It seems we can login to Samba v2.0.5a using Win2000 and cleartext password, but when using DOT 5.3.2R1P1D4 with unix authentication (no domain...), we see some login "traces" using "options cifs.trace_login", but the outcome is not good - we can't seem to login....
Do we need 5.3.4 ?
We've seen the same thing. It's a known bug (16022) and the last I heard, it will be fixed in 5.4. Does anyone know if any earlier release will have a patch for this?
