Another thing which came into my mind is the use of DFM (Data Fabric Manager).
This is a tool from Netapp and has the ability to collect a lot of information from your filers and present them via a web-interface and can sent out mails as well.

the filer does send out two snmp-traps for volume occupancy. One at 95% and one at 98%. You can define a snmp-traphost which collects the messages.
But you are still in a need to have a tool that collects this traps (like nagios does).
If you want to use this for users you can also work with quotas, but this only works with qtrees.

I wanted to ask if a filer supports notification for users regarding the fill level of a volume. i know it's possible with external monitoring tools (nagios), but i need something like snmp traps or mails.
