Hi,
We're just setting up a new SQL server with a SMSQL backup job and we're seeing the following DBCC errors. The SM SQL job has been re-installed and the job setup again as per other servers (ie its the first time we've seen the error). There is also an initiator error but we're not sure why thats listed as an issue - it through the initiator and that IP that the SAN lun's are connected in the first place -

Any ideas ?
Thanks in advance, Raj.
Hi
Is it possible to delete a limited set of files from all snapshots without having to delete every snapshot in which those files appear? If the official line is, "No", is there an unapproved way of doing this?
Thanks
Francois

The only way I can think to do it is this:
1) create a new volume
2) copy over the snapshots of the old volume to the new volume one at a time with ndmpcopy. Start with a full copy of the oldest snapshot and then do incremental copies from second oldest to newest of the remaining snapshots.
3) after copying each snapshot, remove the unwanted file from the new volume and create a snapshot on the new volume.
When you are done the new volume will have (essentially) the same set of snapshots, but with the unwanted file deleted.
Probably not worth the trouble.

Do you use tape backups? Would the software vendor require you to remove it from there too? If not, the same could reasonably be said for snapshots as they are part of your backup. You could recover the software from tape as well, correct?

Hi
Nothing sinister - we cancelled some software contract and we need to delete all copies of it. Unfortunately, a copy has been stored on one of
the filers.

Never mind...saw your response on that. :) But I suppose the vendor should have some policy around not easily deletable backups as SOME of their customers may still be using tape.
