What's the best practice procedure (doc?) for hot adding a new tray of SATA to my 2240 cluster? What the things that can go wrong?
thanks!
The Netapp doc mentioned is pretty good.
I also use the Netapp Config Advisor tool
http://support.netapp.com/NOW/download/tools/config_advisor/
you can run it before against the Filers to confirm you have multipath and after to confirm the cabling is correct.
It's picked up a few issues in the past e.g. SAS cables connected on same ASIC.
Probably obvious but the shelves also need to be power cycle after the ID has been changed.

You are going to disable one path. Hook it up. Re-enable the path. Disable the other Path. Hook up the second path. Re-enable the second path.
If Applicable, re-do the ACP cabling also. From what I have seen, it will automatically re-probe when there is a break in the loop.
As someone else said: MAKE SURE your shelf ID is unique! before attaching to loop.

probably some overlap in info, but there is a sas and apc cabling guide as well.
