The "transparent" option was added in MRTG 2.7.1 (according to the CHANGES file in the latest version of MRTG). The version of MRTG included in the NOW download package (which combines MRTG with some Filer-specific configuration things) is older than that, so that explains why it doesn't recognize "transparent".
Regarding the disk usage problem, I just tried the NOW version of MRTG with the latest version of ONTAP, and didn't see any problem with the disk usage. Please send me additional details on your setup (exact version of ONTAP, any customizations you've made to the MRTG package), and I'll look into it further.

I get an error message when I add "tranparent" to the options line

I downloaded the filer mrtg and have been able to get it running on my 840. What I have discovered is that the disk usage is not showing.
I seem to remember having to do a bit of fiddling with the mrtg stuff to get it working properly. Here's my mrtg.cfg section - change hostnames and contacts as necessary, obviously.
