One item that I've researching that is a bit unclear, is that, can I can connect a SATA disk shelf (DS14mk2 AT) to a clustered set of FAS960 heads?
I think there is no problem. I assume that you must use the AT-FCx modules, as they are dual-looped. I suspect that the the AT-FCx is mandatory for clustering (as opposed to the AT-FC) , but NOW seems a bit vague, at least according to what I was able to find.
Also, I've heard rumors that connecting SATA shelves to a cluster is not really reliable. I was a bit taken a back, as NetApp as the SATA shelves have been out for a while. Is this really the case?
Tom
clustered sata shelves work just fine. I have several terabytes attached to a 3050 cluster with out any problems. AT-FCX is required for that to work. I'd also recommend being on the latest firmware on the AT-FCX.

Clustering with SATA is fine, however the 900 series FAS controllers do not support SATA. You can only add SATA (officially) to FAS270, FAS30XX and FAS60XX series systems.

The above product comparison is good to find this high level info.

FAS920/940/960 (but not FAS980) support SATA as of 7.0.2 or 7.0.3. It's in the config guide, so it's official ;-).
Share and enjoy!

You sure about that? It states in the system configuration guide that ATA drives can be used and in fact increase the capacity potential of the 900 series.

All,
We have a requirement to ship a filer as encrypted. Decuru is proposing a permanent solution where we leave one at the starting location and on in the final resting location. I would rather not have a permanent solution. I guess what I'm asking the list is do they have any ideas or have done something in the past regarding encryption during shipment of hardware?
Thanks,
E-
Hi E,
Can you explain more about what it is you are trying to do? Do you only need to ship the filer once? Or is it data that you are shipping? Is it shelves?

It is shipping twice once across the pond to do a baseline snapmirror then back across when it's done. Our only requirement is that it is encrypted during transit or in the case of splitting disks up. Not readily available to be reconstructed.

At least on the FAS 920-960.
