does setting the version force the filer to only use that version? if not, what is the function of the command.

Actually, as the NDMP server and client negotiate the version they can use, the ndmp session being used can vary for every session. For your OnTap version 5.3.6 , NDMP version 1, 2 and 3 are supported. So it depends on the NDMP application to use any one.

You can type "ndmpd version" on the filer and it should return what version(s) it supports. BTW, where does ndmpd store its log? I've seen a log in the /etc and /etc/log directories, but they don't look like the one that you quoted.

is looking in the log the only way? it does not show on "ndmpd status."

also, if i am on ver 2, what advantages will i get when i turn on ver 3?
