George, We have safely deleted the entire contents of this directory on a number of occasions.
Our original reason for doing so was because multiple autosupport send failures were causing the data to be accumulated for sending at a later date. The failures were mostly due to email attachment restrictions on our mailrelay.
You may like to check your messages log around the time that weekly autosupports are due to go out. It is likely you will see something related to an SMTP failure.

I have around 50 or so entries in ./etc/log/autosupport directory on all of my filers dating back to July '04.
Does anyone know if this is something that can be safely purged ? Why is it being accumulated ?
BTW, autosupport is enabled and is working correctly.
Thx, George
