You cannot uses Netbackup to backup other systems when the drives are directly attached to the NetApp Filer. You can only backup NetApp servers with it period with Netbackup 3.4. I am not sure if it is planned for 4.5 or 5.0 release to change this.
Also Netbackup and Legato do not play well together when sharing tape devices. It sounds as though you have some drives specifically set for Legato but are trying to use them with Netbackup too??. Netbackup wants control of the drives and will not be able to know when Legato is done using the drives and vice versa with Legato not knowing about Netbackup.

Ok, I didn't think of that, thanks. Seems like no matter how long I wait when unloading manually, it still fails, time to open another case with veritas I suppose. Amusement factor of the debug goes up as number-of-products-involved squared.

No symptoms, no errors logged, but the next backup of the netapp fails because "storage unit is unavailable".

What I'm trying to do is to connect a DLT7000 to a netapp F740. Using
netbackup I want to backup the netapp but also backup sun machines that reside elsewhere on the network.
