Of those who run Oracle on Netapp, how do you feel about it? I recently received an e-mail in which a Sun rep stated they gave up running Oracle on NetApp over a year ago. "Gave up" implies there were issues that were not easily overcome.
According to NetApp, Ontap is "really a database file system". The technical specs on Ontap seem to back this up, but many people shy away from the idea. Granted, most of the people knocking the idea are other storage vendors or VAR's but some concern in the admin community I've spoken with revolve around NetApp being NAS and not DAFS or SAN.
I'm looking for experiences, both positive and negative, from anyone doing this.
Thanks.
We are embarking on loading oracle database on Netapp. Any feedback will be appreciated.

Erm... don't you *work* for Oracle? You should be the experts. ;-) AFAIK, Oracle has officially supported locating tablespaces on NAS for some time now.

What is the size of the database you are looking for ??
oracle parameter "db_file_multiblock_read_count" cannot be utilized effectively if you have block size other than 4KB.

we are running oracle 7.3.4.4 and oracle 8.1.6.2 on AIX 4.3.3 machines. we are using both 760 and 740 filers for different servers, development and production, we have not had any issues with our setup. they have a dedicated link from the filer to the unix servers and these are mostly oltp type databases. we are are in the process of planning to migrate our DSS database to a filer as we are having issues with the backup time and disk failure issues on the ssa drives.
