Yes, the FAS2050 uses software based disk assignment. Any additional disks/shelves added to the system will need to be assigned. Details on disk assignment can be found in the Storage Management Guide.

We recently received a FAS2050 (single shelf, active/active) with 20 300G SAS disks. I assigned 10 to each head. If we add more SAS disk shelves will the new disks be software assigned as well?
I've been looking through NOW and haven't found an answer. Not much FAS2050 or SAS disk documentation available yet.
