If you plan on taking snapshots of your Luns (one of the primary reasons for using Netapp), then you will need SnapDrive, which works with the MS API to flush "dirty writes" prior to telling the Netapp to take its snapshot. Now you CAN take snapshots through the netapp scheduler, but the filesystem in the LUN won't be consistent.
Also, if you have SnapMirror, SnapDrive initiates a replication after the snapshot.
So if you have recovery on the brain, you want SnapDrive.
Oh yeah, it also cuts the time and thought that goes into creating and expanding luns by 90%.

Is anyone running iSCSI on windows without SnapDrive or is it just a big
pain w/o SnapDrive?
How does SnapDrive for Windows make your life easier, is it work the license?
