Hi Folks,
There seems to be not very much that would be considered "filer" or "appliance" in SUN's new N8200. A closer loo reveals that SUN's new "filer" is apparently a SUN server and A1000 storage array bundled into one marketing code.
They have been shipping the A1000 technology in various forms for quite a while now. This is the stuff that they OEM from Symbios Logic/LSI/MetaStor.
Its pretty much a standard SUN server and direct attached storage that the SUN marketing guys are calling a "filer".

Hi -
Does anybody know anything about recently announced NAS solution from Sun Sun StorEdge N8200 filer (http://www.sun.com/smi/Press/sunflash/2000-05/sunflash.20000530.1.html) and if it is just an adopted version of Network Appliance filer?
Thanks

So basically another kick at the Netra NFS bucket (Ultra-1 + integrated multipack)? I see they mention Network Appliance specifically too... about time they noticed. ;-)

Don't forget Netra NFS was supposed to "eat Netapp's lunch", or so they said.

I don't want to get too off topic, but I couldn't resist mentioning that Sun apparently was never able to get the A7000 to work properly. They were the fourth company to buy the product, but have you ever seen one?
So, it looks like they repackaged some old technology, gave it a nifty new model number, and that's supposed to look like progress?
