Does anyone know the risks or reasons why you shouldn't mix DS4243 and DS2246 SAS enclosures in the same stack? We have an IBM N6040 (3140) which inadvertently has this configuration and is running without issue...
TIA, Fred
Fred,
The DS2246 has 6GB I/O ports and the DS4243 has 3GB I/O cards. You won't get the full benefit of the higher speed this way, but I believe it should work OK.

You can order IOM6 modules for the DS4243 shelves now. With that, you'll be able to have both shelf types in the same stack without worrying about I/O.

No, you can not. This is new shelf type DS4246, you cannot convert existing DS4243 into DS4246 (at least, that is the state right now).
