Hello Toasters!
Ok, trying to understand somthing here. I have a V-series 3140 running DOT 7.3.2.p3.
We reciently added a SAS card, and 2 new SAS shelves (450 flavor :))
When I go to create a new aggr, I only see 14 disk as an option for the raid group size.
I dont have the option of raid4 or raid dp. I called support, and he said they changed this in the GUI to only have 14 as the max option as of DOT 7.3.1.....
This does not sound right. yes, I know I can create an aggr, and change the raid group size. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or have noticed this.
That's what you get for using a gui?
Seriously, if their customer is using a gui they probably feel they need to protect them from themselves and put in restrictions. No such restrictions from the cli.

Steve,
The V-Series controllers are designed to front-end third party storage, i.e. 3PAR, EMC, Hitachi, etc by default. This is the reason you're not seeing RAID4 or RAID-DP options when you create aggregates and the RAID group size is set to 14. The V-Seires relies on the RAID type presented from the third-party storage and just stripes across the LUN's presented using RAID0. Only recently, in 7.3 code, are you also able to have NetApp disk shelves attached. Even though you don't see the proper options in FilerView, you can always set these values from the CLI and it will work just fine.
Hope that help,
Tim

Thanks Tim. Just what I was looking for!
