Hello Toaster friends,
I am already monitoring my filers for these infos:
- CPU utilization - NFS ops/seg - /vol/vol0 volume - ethernet traffic
I was wondering if its possible to also monitor:
- Cache age (as reported by sysstat command) - Disk kB/s read and write (also reported by sysstat)
Any know know the SNMP OID to this? I tried searching at the MIB, but I couldn't find it.

If you download the latest MIB from the netapp now site (http://now.netapp.com) and unzip/untar it you will find a traps.dat file which has a list of all the snmp oid's and their names/function.
Hello Mike,
perhaps I wasn't clear. I am familiar with the MIB file available at now.netapp.com. But I didn't find the OIDs to monitor the "cache age" and "disk read/write kb/s" variables (like the ones reported using the sysstat command).
I also couldn't find them at the traps.dat file that you suggested.
I was wondering if anyone here is monitoring this kind of info.
Perhaps if it's not in those files, it's not possible to monitor them...?

My copy of the MIB (version 1.1.4, for release 5.3.4 of OnTAP - ie October 1999), doesn't contain a Cache age, though it has lots of different percentage and counters for cache hits from each of the different NFS ops (sections v2CachedCalls, v2CachedPerCent, v3CachedCalls, v3CachedPerCent.)
No sign of a disk kB/s either, but the network bytes are reported in miscNetSentKB and miscNetRcvdKB. (The SAG for 5.3.4 is a bit poor about example output, and I don't have a filer handy, but it definitely seems odd that they included miscNet* and didn't have a miscDisk* equivalent.)
I guess the question to Mr Hackworth (or anyone else doing SNMP work at NTAP) - are the missing values somehow derived from the base counters that are in the MIB, or are they not present for other technical reasons?
James.
I've not checked to see if this particular value is available but, if on a linux/unix machine you run the "snmpwalk" command you'll see all snmp objects even those not in the MIB or without names.. sometimes you need to compare the raw numbers back to sysstat etc to work out what they actually are but you can probably find some new values out that way..

Since it doesn't seem to be in the MIB, you could always write a shell script that gets the data from sysstat and gives it to mrtg. Mrtg works well with external commands, although it's obviously less efficient than using SNMP.
