Hi all,
I've inherited a Netapp F760, with two FC9 shelves (7x36 GB FC disks). I noticed some discussion earlier on this list about Netapp having a "hobbyist" program, whereby home users could get software updates and license keys for unsupported machines. (Mine is working fine, but only has NFS licensed -- I'd like to experiment with CIFS, HTTP, etc.) Does anyone have any more details about this? I searched the Net but was unable to find any specific information, other than that various people seem to have successfully gotten hobbyist license keys from their Netapp reps. (I don't have a Netapp rep, since I am only a home user).
Also, my unit has two broken disks -- one was bad when I got it, and another failed (urk) shortly thereafter. I am curious whether I can simply take a new, empty Seagate ST136403FC disk -- this is the same model number as those in the system now, remove the failed disk from the drive carrier, and swap in the new one? That is, is there anything special about a NetApp-spec disk (special firmware maybe, or something prewritten on the disk, or whatever) that differentiates it from a generic Seagate disk, and would therefore prevent me from using it in the system? If so, is there any workaround?
Thanks a lot for any info, Mikkamakka
