Is the mail from this list archived anywhere. I believe there was some discussion about problems upgrading to Solaris 2.6.1 and I want to make sure a new Netapp customer is aware of any problems BEFORE they upgrade to the 2.6.1 release
Thanks, Dawn

Why such an odd port? Certain places with odd firewall setups can't get there...

because our firewall doesn't block it. i'd be amenable to picking any port that we don't block, but that cuts out all the privileged ports and many of the rest, and i think anything else will be a problem for someone. i'm open to suggestions, though.

It seems to me that NetApp would want to provide an archival services for this mailing list on their own web site. It is no doubt an essential resource for Network Appliance customers.

it seems to me that they'd want to buy me dinner for starting it, but that doesn't seem to have happened either [joke, dammit!].
could anyone who can't get to the current service, and wants to, please email what ports would be conveient for them to connect to - there's nothing to stop me running multiple servers on the same machine. how's that? please mail to *me*, madlists@mathworks.com, *not* to the list.

Given that this is not a NetApp "sanctioned" list, I would think that they may not want to give the appearance of such (by hosting archives, etc). That might give the impression that this is a legit support source (even though NetApp personel have been most helpful/vocal).
Perhaps a pointer to the list and archives from within NOW...?

That's essentially correct, though the issue is that by hosting it, some people would feel that it is less open, that we are trying to control the discussions. We think there's value to a forum in which our users can exchange information, good and bad, without interference or influence from us.
Hopefully anyone who owns a NetApp product already knows what the official support channels are.
(even though NetApp personel have been most helpful/vocal).
Thanks!

Good idea. I'll forward your suggestion to the person who runs the NOW site, in case she hasn't already seen the discussion.

Port 80? :)
I run the fw here so it's not a problem for me. Just thought that 1999 was an odd port to use.

Does it really matter what port service is on? Isn't one port pretty much the same as another?
Maybe what really needs to be done is a periodic mailing (like bi-weekly or monthly) on this list of resources on the net of interest to admins of toasters. Things like the location of the archive for this list, significant web sites that deal with toaster issues, and vital software to keep toasters running would be listed.
In fact, I will be so bold to say that I will organize the effort if people out there will start to send me some information. If I collect enought info, I will send out the first message late tomorrow afternoon or on Monday. -- Gerard Hickey email: Gerard.Hickey@nsc.com National Semiconductor Corporation phone: +1 207 541 6101 Advance Development Center, MS 03-03 fax: +1 207 541 6108 5 Foden Road, South Portland, Maine 04106-1706
