Hi there,
I would like to know if it is at all possible to attach a DLT7000 tape drive using a single-ended SCSI interface to an F520 filer.
Please let me know if this is doable. Thanks.
Pradeep.

We just attached a overland 10way dlt7000 stacker to our 540 running 4.3 with no problems. Our supplier advised us to replace the narrow scsi card with a wide one as they had had problems with controlling the drives with the narrow ones. The only minor annoyance is not being able to tell tell dump/restore to fetch tape x and backup onto that.

Okay, I understand that the loader robotics cannot be controlled by the native dump/restore commands from the netapp, except for the library unit supplied by Breece Hill.
What I would like to know is about a single DLT drive. Can such a tape drive with the single ended interface be seen by a netapp?

As long as the DLT identifies itself as a quantum dltxxxx in its scsi identifier then there shouldn't be any problems. I believe that some vendors fiddle with the bios in which case you'd need to upgrade to 5.x for its tape fudgeing facilities. In our case the the overland manual said that the identifier was an overland one and told us how we could very easily set the unit up to change the identifier. However none of this was needed as the netapp booted up and correctly identified the drive as a DLT7000 just fine.
Hope that helps.
Chris
