I wondered if anyone was using NetBackup with their filers. We are currently using Networker but are sufficiently dissatisfied that we going to look at NetBackup and I am interested in any problem that others have encountered.
/Michael
I have been using Budtool from Intelliguard and can heartily recommend it-very stable, very easy to use and well supported.

I love legato!
But the rumored client for the NetApp isn't there yet :(
I wish it were....
Well Legato now owns Intelliguard (makers of BudTool) so I am sure the client will be out soon....

That's as may be, but Budtool's products are far more stable and have a better GUI than any Legato offering I've used, so I will definitely stick with them
Raymond :)

I have a letter here stating that Intelliguard and Legato are merging. Check their websites for details. (http://www.iguard.com/)

We use netbackup with Netapps - works like a charm.

We are using netbackup to back up our filers over NFS. This works without problems but soon we will be changing over to use locally attached tape drives and NDMP. With locally attached drives we can back up CIFS as well as Unix data. Also, each filer will be treated as a seperate client instead of as an NFS file system of the backup server.
What were the problems you had with Networker? I should be able to tell you if you can expect the same problems from Netbackup. By the way, one of the main reasons we went with Netbackup over Networker is because Netbackup has a seperate backup catalog for each backup of each client whereas Networker only has a seperate backup catalog for each client but not for each backup. In other words, for Networker each backup for a client is appended to that client's catalog and this can grow huge and in our experience was subject to corruption and performance problems.

Actually backing up the filers works pretty well, we backup using a Sun over NFS, we have also tried CIFS and that works at least as well. Most of the problems we have had are on the server end of things, we also see corruption and performance problems with wiss. One of networkers favorite tricks is to lock up the index database. Most of the problems that we see aren't that big, we can usually work around them but most weeks we need to go in and fix something at least once and when we report a problem the responses we get from Legato leave something to be desired.
