I've always thought of these commands being analogous to the Windows/NT Resource Kits. They are very useful and powerful, but poorly documented, and unsupported - unless you are being walked through using them with support, they need to be used with caution.

The funny thing is that rdfile is as tame as it gets from a command standpoint, and does not require priv set advance (rc_toggle_basic). I also wonder how many Netapp owners do not know about the "hidden" commands? So, if the intention is to keep us from messing up by using such, maybe they should have used a more complex "secret handshake".

There are a bunch of "ninja" commands (as NetApp calls them). These can be powerful and very destructive so they aren't broadcast like normal commands. Some require you to "priv set advanced".
I think they don't tell all because they are afraid of having to help pick up the pieces. ;)
That version of the command doesn't work with OnTap 5.3.6R2 or below for sure.
(and damned if I can remember the command for the lower revisions)
