We have a 540 with 5.3.7R3. Does anyone know the real limit on the max storage we can put on it, currently we have a shelf of 4 GB disks (/vol0) and an FCAL shelf of 36 GB disks (241 GB) /vol1 I know the physical limit of FCAL is 8 shelves/loop but how many can be used effectivly.
A few years ago we set up a 220 with extra SCSI controllers and MANY shelves. It turned out that you could add disks to a running system and fill many more shelves that the machine was supposed to hold, However when you rebooted... (paraphrased). Sorry, too many disks... Oh sorry your volume is missing too many disks bye bye...
So has anyone there put 2? 3? more FCAL shelves on a 540?
